A summer engagement session at Eagles Nest Lookout is always a good idea, and this evening was no exception. This lookout offers some of the most breathtaking views in the area. It feels wild and expansive in the best possible way, making it an incredible spot for couples who love the outdoors and do not mind a little adventure.
The session began with the walk up from the parking lot, which takes about twenty minutes. The trail itself is part of the experience. Surrounded by trees and the quiet sounds of nature, it gives you time to settle into the moment before reaching the lookout.
One of my favorite things about Eagles Nest Lookout is the cliffside rocks. They add so much character to the landscape and create a dramatic backdrop that feels both powerful and romantic. There is one particular rock that always makes me smile because it feels like it belongs in The Lion King. Standing out over the valley, it gives that iconic, on-top-of-the-world feeling that translates beautifully in photos.
We spent most of the session exploring the lookout, moving between the different rock formations and soaking in the summer air. Toward the very end, the sky shifted and the rain began to fall. Instead of rushing away, we leaned into it and grabbed a few quick portraits right on the mountaintop as the rain came down. There is something so romantic about rain in the mountains, and I am always grateful when couples are up for embracing moments like that.
Thankfully, the rain waited until we were just about finished the session. The real adventure came next with the twenty minute walk back to the cars in a full downpour. The trail quickly turned muddy, and we carefully made our way down, trying not to slip while laughing the whole time. It was messy, a little chaotic, and honestly so much fun.
Sessions like this are a reminder that the best memories often come from leaning into the unexpected. Rain, mud, and all, this Eagles Nest Lookout engagement session was unforgettable.
