Katie and Alex’s summer Isabel Bader Centre wedding in Kingston, Ontario, was the perfect mix of sentimental details, stunning waterfront views, and a whole lot of joy. From the moment I arrived, it was clear how much thought they had put into making their day uniquely theirs. Filled with family heirlooms, personal touches, and nods to their love story that’s been over a decade in the making.
The day began with the ladies getting ready at the charming Whitney Manor, a beautiful historic inn that offered the perfect mix of elegance and comfort. Meanwhile, Alex and the groomsmen were getting ready at the Donald Gordon Hotel, sharing laughs and tying up the last-minute details before the celebrations began.
Their ceremony took place at the breathtaking Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, right on the edge of Lake Ontario. The floor-to-ceiling windows flooded the space with light, and the view of the water created a serene, magical setting. It was the perfect place for these high school sweethearts to say “I do.”
Their day was filled with heartfelt touches. Katie’s “something blue” was an aquamarine ring that once belonged to her maternal grandmother. While her paternal grandmother’s wedding ring was pinned to her bouquet. They gifted their fathers ties with childhood photos sewn into the back.
And then… the cake! This wasn’t just any wedding cake, it was a Dairy Queen ice cream cake. There’s a sweet (and funny) story behind it. Katie and Alex’s first date in 2012 was a trip to the movies followed by Dairy Queen, where Alex was working at the time. A friend had teased Katie back then, joking that one day they’d get married and have an ice cream cake at their wedding. Although Katie’s friend now lives in another country and couldn’t attend the wedding, she made sure that a Dairy Queen cake was there for their big day, keeping that decade-old joke alive in the sweetest way.
From start to finish, their Isabel Bader Centre wedding was exactly what they had envisioned. A joyful celebration surrounded by family and friends, with every detail reflecting the life and love they’ve built together.
