After photographing 134 weddings, I thought I knew what a wedding day felt like. The nerves, the joy, the energy, the emotional moments. But nothing could have prepared me for experiencing it from the other side of the lens! Getting into my wedding dress with help from my mom, fastening my cathedral veil with help from Hayds mom, and finally stepping into the role of the bride was surreal.

Our day began in the simplest, most meaningful way. I got ready in our cozy Almonte home, surrounded by my girls in their soft blue and floral dresses. Meanwhile, Haydon got ready at the Almonte Fairgrounds, the same place we’d exchange vows overlooking the water during golden hour.

Before the whirlwind began, we shared our first look at the Mill of Kintail. It felt peaceful, grounding, and so us! My grandma’s classic car was my mode of transportation for the day, with my dad proudly acting as chauffeur.

Before our ceremony, we shared a small dinner with our immediate family and wedding party. It was the perfect way to keep the start of the day feeling relaxed and personal, while still being able to include more of our favourite people in the evening ceremony that followed.

Our dog trotted confidently as ring bearer, adding the perfect touch of “this is our little family.” Haydon’s reaction as I came down the aisle is something I’ll never forget, the kind of moment I’ve captured for so many couples, but this time, it was ours. Under a white floral arch, surrounded by our favourite people, we said “I do” as the sun dipped low and wrapped everything in warm light.

While guests made their way inside, we snuck in some sunset portraits, just the two of us soaking in the magic. Then we walked into the reception and went straight into cake cutting and dances, easing into an evening that felt effortless and joy-filled.

I’ve always believed in simple, meaningful wedding days and ours was exactly that. Intentional. Heartfelt. Utterly us. And yes… for one day, I truly felt like a princess.
